What is Kambo?

Kambo is the secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor, also known as the giant monkey tree frog. For generations, Indigenous tribes of the Amazon have applied Kambo as a way to release heavy energies, restore balance, and strengthen the body and spirit. Kambo is respected as a sacred medicine for protection, vitality, and healing. When shared in a safe and intentional setting, it can be a profound tool for cleansing the body, mind, and spirit.

Unlike plant medicines, Kambo is not psychoactive, it does not create visions or altered states. Instead, its effect is deeply physical, emotional, and energetic.

At dawn, the frogs are gently called down from the trees by skilled practitioners who know their song. The thick waxy secretion that naturally appears on its skin is carefully collected on small wooden sticks, where it dries and is preserved for use.

Once the offering is complete, the frog is released back to the forest, unharmed. In traditional practice, the frog is blessed, thanked, and returned with reverence, a reminder that this medicine comes through relationship, not extraction.

The Sacred Exchange

Kambo is not a product to be taken, but a living gift from the Amazon. Indigenous tribes teach that when it is harvested in gratitude, the spirit of the frog continues to protect and heal. Ethical practitioners today honor this lineage by ensuring the frogs are treated with care, and the medicine is shared only in a sacred way. All Kambo used at Triangle Kambo is carefully selected to ensure ethical sourcing and quality.

The Power of the Peptides

Kambo is unique as it contains a powerful mix of bioactive peptides - natural chains of amino acids that interact with the human body in remarkable ways. Scientists have identified more than a dozen of these peptides, many of which have been studied for their effects on the immune, cardiovascular, and nervous systems.

Together, these peptides may have a powerful detoxifying effect, purging physical and energetic toxins, and stimulating the body’s innate healing intelligence. While modern science is still exploring the full potential of these compounds, Indigenous traditions have long recognized the cleansing and strengthening power of Kambo.

  • Dermorphin - interacts with the body’s mu-opioid receptors and delivers pain-relieving effects estimated to be 30–40 times stronger than morphine

  • Dermaseptin - shows strong antimicrobial activity against bacteria, fungi, yeast, protozoa, and enveloped viruses - including those that can cause serious opportunistic infections in people with weakened immune systems

  • Dermaseptin B2/Adenoregulin - a 33-amino-acid peptide that interacts with adenosine receptors. This antimicrobial peptide has demonstrated strong efficacy in targeting and eliminating cancer cells

  • Deltorphin - a powerful analgesic with greater affinity and selectivity for delta-opioid receptors than any other naturally occurring compound discovered to date

  • Phyllocaerulein - a naturally occurring analgesic that influences satiety and sedation, lowers blood pressure, and plays a role in thermoregulation

  • Phyllomedusin - acts as a potent vasodilator and strongly influences tear ducts, salivary glands, the intestines, and bowels. It plays a key role in the purging commonly experienced during Kambo ceremonies.

  • Phyllokinin - induces a sustained decrease in blood pressure

  • Tryptophyllins - has demonstrated strong activity against the yeast Candida albicans and is under investigation for potential cardiovascular, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer applications

What is a Kambo Session Like?

The ceremony begins with purification by the facilitator, Ronen, supported by his assistant Megan. An opening invocation is offered to the Spirit of Kambo, and participants set their intentions for the healing work ahead. The facilitator then makes several small “gates” using the ember tip of a vine, usually placed on the shoulder, though other areas can be chosen if needed. Only the outer layer of skin is gently opened so that the Kambo secretion can enter the body through the lymphatic system. These small burns are minor, noticeable but not typically very painful.

The medicine is applied gradually, beginning with a single dot. The facilitator pauses to observe the body’s response - especially important for first-time participants - before adding additional points. During this process, the participant drinks water to support the cleansing and purging to come.

Once Kambo enters the body, the experience begins quickly and intensely. Common sensations include a rapid rise in body temperature, flushed skin (especially around the head), a quickened heartbeat, pressure in the head, swelling in the face, lips, or throat, sweating, and nausea. The facilitator and assistant remain attentive at all times, closely monitoring and supporting you throughout the process. As the body continues to hydrate with water, the purge usually follows within 10–30 minutes - most often through vomiting, though sometimes through the bowels. This purge is considered a powerful release, clearing toxins and stagnation on the physical, emotional, mental, and energetic levels.

Though challenging, participants are encouraged to relax into the process, breathe slowly and consciously, and trust the intelligence of the Spirit of Kambo. The medicine knows what to do.

When the purge is complete - signaled by a settling of blood pressure and easing of nausea - the facilitator removes the medicine. For most, the difficult sensations pass within 10–20 minutes, leaving space for rest and recovery. A natural plant resin, known as Dragon’s Blood, is then applied to the gates to seal and protect them as they heal. The resin naturally falls away in about a week, leaving small marks sometimes referred to as “Kambo tattoos” - a lasting reminder of the courage and transformation carried through this work.

Kambo Microdosing

In a Kambo microdosing session, the participant receives just a single small gate with one tiny dot of secretion. The initial sensations of Kambo - such as warmth in the body - may arise, but they remain mild. With attentive guidance from the facilitator and assistant, and ongoing feedback from the participant, the experience is kept within a gentle, pre-purgative state. A microdose session typically lasts 15–20 minutes, with little to no recovery time needed afterward.

Because there is no purge, preparation is simple. Participants do not need to drink large amounts of water before or during the session, and a light fast of about two hours beforehand is sufficient.

  • Ongoing maintenance after doing an initial full session (or several full sessions)

  • Participants who are extra sensitive to the effects of traditional Kambo treatment

  • Participants with health concerns that prevent them from having a traditional full Kambo session

  • Ongoing treatment of chronic conditions such as Lyme, digestive, and auto-immune challenges

Kambo Microdosing is recommended for:

Triangle Kambo Offerings

  • What it is: A private, complete Kambo experience where several small “gates” are opened and multiple dots of secretion are applied.

  • Duration: Typically 60 minutes, including rest afterward.

  • Experience: Brings on the full intensity of the medicine - this may include physical purge, deep nervous system reset, emotional release, and energetic clearing.

  • Best for: Those seeking a comprehensive cleanse, deeper healing, or working with chronic conditions, emotional blockages, or spiritual alignment.

Traditional Full Kambo

  • What it is: A gentle introduction to Kambo using just one small gate and one dot of secretion.

  • Duration: About 15–20 minutes, with little to no recovery time needed.

  • Experience: Mild physical sensations (such as heat or slight flushing) without triggering a purge. Focused on subtle energetic balancing and nervous system support.

  • Best for: Those who want a lighter introduction, or individuals seeking gradual integration of Kambo’s benefits without the intensity of a full session.

Kambo Microdosing

  • What it is: A traditional Kambo session held in community, where multiple participants sit together in ceremony. You can do either full Kambo or microdosing.

  • Duration: Usually 2–3 hours, depending on group size.

  • Experience: The same as a regular session, supported by the collective energy of the group. Participants often find strength, connection, and deeper insight through shared healing.

  • Best for: Those who feel called to ceremony in community, appreciate shared energy, or want to experience Kambo in a traditional ceremonial setting.
